President Caitlin O’Reilly called the meeting to order at the Doubletree on an overcast fall day with mild temperatures. She led the group in singing the Star-Spangled Banner and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Diana Meckley presented the invocation. President-elect Zach Agett introduced Linnea Carlson of Chautauqua Striders.
The President next called Patty Johnson to the podium to be inducted into membership with Sue Jones as her sponsor. Caitlin read a very impressive biography of Patty, revealing that she and her husband David lived in Florence and Bologna, Italy. They have lived in NYC, northern Minnesota, Grand Island and Buffalo. Patty earned degrees from St. Bonaventure University, the New School for Social Research and the University of Buffalo. She worked for twenty years at Roswell in Buffalo. The Johnsons, who have three grown sons, have retired to Lakewood. Patty has been a member of Rotary wherever she lives and was the first woman President of the Grand Island Rotary Club. She is now the newsletter editor for our district newsletter. Welcome, Patty!
Caitlin thanked helpers for today’s meeting: Ken Omeruo, Diana Meckley, John Bauman, Deb Kathman, Wayne Rishell, Fran Lapinski and Becky Robbins.
Matt Clark of the Doubletree announced the winner of the 50/50 as Tim Edborg who won $33.
Tory Irgang did a fun and profitable job as Sergent-at-Arms! She fined people whose pictures were in the Post Journal for the United Way Kick-Off; Becky Robbins for the BPU’s great fiber project; Chris Anderson for the Resource Center’s Battle of the Businesses win; members who had children or grandchildren in the JHS Marching Band; members who were in the JHS Marching Band; Mike Roberts for winning the Circulus golf tournament; members who never attended a Tarp Skunks game this past season; members who assisted in the United Way Giving Day and perhaps a few more people this editor did not catch!
Ruth Lundin, Ken Omeruo and Mike Dobbins gave happy bucks.

At 11 a.m. Oct. 10, the Double Tree and Jamestown Kicks are holding a fall event for kids at the hotel. On Saturday, October 24, the City Parks Department’s Riverwalk Halloween Festival for kids takes place from 5-7 p.m. Rotary will host a table, with set up at 4 p.m. Books and candy will be given away and donations, including money, can be made to Patty Graves. Help at the table would be appreciated. It is a fun event. The local children and their parents and guardians enjoy the night.
The Doubletree announces that if you park in the parking ramp, be sure to give your license number to the front desk to avoid paying a parking ticket. Your
car won’t get out of the ramp without doing so.
Rotary is hosting a table at JCC’s Community Connections event from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, and people are needed to help at the table.Chris Anderson can spend one hour there but more help is needed. The idea is to encourage students to sign up for the Rotary Youth LeadershipAcademy (RYLA). The event was set up by Ruth Lundin. If you can help, call Ruth or Caitlin.
Max, our German exchange student, will play Southwestern Soccer today and all are welcome to attend. Think of Max when you’re planning your activities which could be of interest to him.
