Visiting Rotarians and Guests: No Rotarians were visiting this week from clubs in other cities.

Announcements:

  • October 15th highway cleanup organizer Lee Magneson announced that the crew will meet at the Park N Ride at 8:30am. Reflective safety vests will be provided.
  • Saturday, October 22. Members were also encouraged to take part in the Pedaling for Polio bicycle event on in support of Rotary’s ongoing, worldwide campaign to finish the job of eradicating polio for all time from Planet Earth.

Birthday Table: Sue Jones preceded this by reminded members that the reason for the Birthday Table is to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation to drive polio into extinction. Join in celebrating that worldwide effort on World Polio Day, October 24. Polio has changed again and we are responding with powerful new initiatives. Share this news with everyone you know. Sue and all members then proceeded to congratulate all of our “October Trick-or-treater” in song.

Paul Harris Fellow: Greg Jones announced Russ Webb, a long-time, much-loved past Jamestown Rotarian, has been awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship recognition by an anonymous member of our club.

50/50 Winner:  $32 won by Sally Martinez

Sergeant At Arms & Happy Bucks:

Sgt at Arms, Doug Conroe continued to single out both the guilty and the privileged among members for fines and praises. Most notable, however, were the members who gave Happy Bucks to report that friends and loved ones, though some at great loss of homes and goods, had survived Hurricane Ian, a blessing which all members joined them in celebrating.

Doug also announced that Ruth and Paul Lundin had been awarded the John Hamilton Award.

Jane Fisher, Creative Trainer at Creative Education Foundation

Courtney Curatolo introduced Jane Fisher, Creative Trainer at Creative Education Foundation. Her passion, honed over many years in improv comedy, is combining creativity, innovation, and joy for greater fulfillment in everyday work and life. “Creative thinking is not a luxury!”

Jane reminds people that some of the most important learning experiences in life, when met with an openness to the joy of new personal growth, are errors and failures. “A lot of problem solving has been ‘educated’ out of people.” But creative thinking can be scary when it welcomes ambiguity and uncertainty, though those can be key factors in creating the most exciting opportunities, growth, and productivity. Mistakes and laughter can both happen together; it is one way that people can learn how to learn-through-play. She promised throughout her entertaining and passionate presentation that trust, honesty, kindness, and integrity in the workplace, just like in life, will create greater success and fulfillment. “Bring a whole person to work. Work and life will both work better.”
