President Michelle Jones called her last official meeting of the Rotary Club of Jamestown to order at noon at the Doubletree Hotel in beautiful downtown Jamestown. She led the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and President-Elect Caitlin O’Reilly led the group in the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner followed by the invocation given by Sue Jones.
President Caitlin introduced today’s guest – always welcome, former member, Kevin Sixbey; member-to-be Fran Lapinski; and Bryn Oldham, guest of Sophia Cama and hopeful future exchange student.

Max Eimiller reminded everyone that Monday, July 13 our Club’s annual Moon Brook Golf Tournament will begin with an 11:30 shotgun start. Max and the committee are still looking for sponsors, players, and basket items.
Marion Beckerink announced they are organizing a sorting party for the any and all who are willing to assist the Literacy Committee to organize all the many books that have been donated for the Laundromat Library. Suggested dates include June 30, July 1 and July 2 as options. The date with the largest number of people signing up will be the date of the meeting.
Michelle has 200-400 raffle tickets just waiting for every member to sell for a chance to win a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 10-year-old bourbon. $10.00 per ticket. This is our ONLY fund raiser for the year – we need everyone to take a handful of tickets to sell and make this successful. The winning ticket will be drawn at the culmination of the Golf Tournament.
Emily Cama announced that Jan’s farewell party will be held July 8 at 5:00 at Kelley & Keith Martin’s home at 103 Warwick Rd. Please bring a dish to pass. Sophia and Chris Anderson have birthdays that same day so I’m sure there will be cake.
Sophia introduced Bryn Oldham, who wants to be an exchange student two years from now.
Michelle presented Sophia with a large check from our Club after she achieved raising $1,000 to qualify for matching funds with lots of hard work and excellent baked goods sales.
Zach announced that $42 was won by Irene Dobies for the 50/50 drawing.
Sergeant at arms Doug Conroe fined Tory Irgang for the success of GIVE BIG CHQ and for the transfer of funds from the 100 Member Club to the CRCF to manage.
Congratulations to Mike Bird, Publisher of The Post-Journal, for its 200th anniversary.
Doug asked one table “What date recently was “Non-gestating parent’s day?” The table answered correctly - Father’s Day. The words Father and Mother are proposed to be eliminated from Mother’s Day and Father’s Day according to the NYS Legislature.
Doug asked all who are marking the graduation season to please contribute.
Happy Bucks – Misti Allen announced that Becky Robbins is having surgery today and will be out of commission for about five weeks. The BPU and the City were awarded $10,000,000 for revitalization of downtown Jamestown; Misti’s son is graduating high school and now also in his second year of college.
Michael Dobbins – thanked everyone for their support of the Juneteenth celebration – they distributed $9,000 in scholarships.
Greg – received a gift of orange salt and asked what community in NYS was famous for salt – of course everyone replied - SYRACUSE!
Joni announced that Thursday, Dr. Ed Davis will lecture about his two history books about Chautauqua Lake at 7PM. A week from Friday, on July 3, an ice cream social will be held at the Fenton to celebrate the 250th birthday of the US from 5-7 pm. Gov. Fenton’s birthday on the fourth of July.
Kevin Sixbey paid happy bucks because he was happy to see everyone. He expressed his thanks to Michelle and told us that Rotary has been a big influence in his and his family’s life. His Son made a hangar for Father’s Day and decorated it with Rotary Wheel.
Brandon Odell paid for wearing his Team USA World Cup jersey and announced that the Doubletree is having a raffle of items in the Lobby for the 250th birthday of our country.
Sophia revealed she baked all weekend for 136 customers – making over 1000 pieces of fudge. Great fundraiser for her trip to France.
Sue Jones paid for the excellent Father’s Day Irish Dancers program at the Reg for Father’ and for The Devil Wears Prada movie coming up Wednesday at 7pm at the Reg. She also gave congratulations to Mike Bird, publisher of the PJ for the paper’s new look, and for their constant support of our Club over the past 100 plus years!
We welcomed new member Fran Lapinski. Michelle read her formal installation and Tory Irgang (standing in for Becky Robbins), had the honor of presenting Fran with her pin. Michelle presented her with her name badge and official four-way test plaque and invited her to tell us about her life.
Fran is a retired (2012) hospital pathologist formerly employed at WCA and Warren General. Her husband was also a pathologist, who died just before Fran retired. She grew up in New Jersey and attended college at Rutgers, followed by NJ Medical School, and residency at SUNY Upstate. They then moved to Jamestown from 1978-2011. She assured us they were VERY busy covering both hospitals. Fran got to know Kevin when they did coroners autopsies (Kevin’s Dad owned Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home) and later Fran learned how to row (Kevin was a founder of the Chautauqua Lake Rowing Club).
Becky Robbins introduced Frances to our Rotary Club and Fran thanked us for welcoming her and said she can’t wait to get to know many more of us better.
