Marion Beckerink introduced today’s speaker Dena Garfield, the founder of Equine Union International, who believes that some of the most important leadership lessons don’t come from boardrooms – they come from paying attention to what makes us human.

A life-long equestrian from the age of eight, a certified yoga instructor, meditation practitioner, and community storyteller, Dena’s work brings together leadership, nervous system science, equine wisdom, and human connection.

Left to right: Dena Garfield of Equine Union International, today’s program presenter and Club President Michelle Jones.

For years she has helped individuals, leaders, families, and community organizations navigate change, build resilience, and reconnect with their natural strengths during times of uncertainty and pressure.

She is also passionate about preserving the stories of people who make our communities stronger through interviews and documentary-style storytelling projects that shine a light on everyday lives and extraordinary journeys.

Dena stated people are looking for a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging and a sense of connection…especially since the Pandemic. People are lonely. Dena has rescued horses forever and one of her book club friends interacted with Kiki, a very reserved older horse. Kiki approached one of the women, separated her from the group and wrapped her neck gently around the woman. The woman wrapped her arms around the horse and began sobbing. When all done, the woman joined the group again and said I don’t know what just happened, but it was amazing.

Dena realized what people really need is to be seen, heard and recognized. This and other experiences led Dena to working with other rescues and people who are stressed.

Dena’s business, Equine Union International provides Immersive Leadership Environments for clarity, regulation and connection under pressure and develops curated, in-person experiences for founders, leaders and creatives who operate under high pressure and need space to reset clarity, improve communication, and strengthen decision-making.

These experiences are designed to support both individual and organizational clarity, while contributing to broader leadership development and community wellbeing. A portion of this work is directed toward initiatives that expand access to leadership growth opportunities, strengthen community partnerships, and support programs that create wider social impact.

Experiences are designed based on group size, setting, and intention. Simply inquire for time and space availability and tailored options. They are not workshops, retreats, or networking events. They are intentionally designed environments where people step out of constant output and into clarity.
