Tory Irgang introduced today’s speakers Yanira Castellano and Carmen Perez who are COMMUNITY NAVIGATORS FOR THE JAMESTOWN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

Yanira Castellano is the community Navigator for Jamestown Public Schools. She was in this line of work for about 10 years through non-profit agencies before joining the Jamestown Public Schools District. Although her degree is in Business Administration, her long experience in this field has helped her move forward in her career. Yanira is part of the YWCA Board of Directors and is active on its Social Justice Committee. Her favorite volunteer role is serving on the grants and scholarship committee of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Yanira loves spending time with her family, going to church activities, and helping her community. She is passionate about what she does to help families, students, and co-workers understand what it means to have a blending of cultures and how beautiful it manifests when we work together for the same goals, Our Students Success!

Carmen Perez also serves as a Community Navigator for Jamestown Public Schools. She was raised in Jamestown and attended Jamestown Public Schools herself, as did her husband and children. After graduating in 2003 from JHS, she returned to work for the district in 2017 and has been there ever since. While working, she attended JBC and obtained her bachelor’s degree in business administration. Carmen truly enjoys working with the students and families at JPS. This position allows her to give back to the community that has supported her throughout her life.
